John's Vision of the Risen Christ on Patmos

"Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades." (Revelation 1:17-18)
John, exiled on Patmos for his testimony to Jesus, describes being caught up in the Spirit on the Lord's Day and turning to see a majestic figure like a son of man among seven golden lampstands. Overwhelmed, he falls at the figure's feet as though dead, and the risen Christ commissions him to write what he has seen.
