"He breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" (John 20:22)
In the Farewell Discourse Jesus promises another Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will teach the disciples everything and remind them of all he said. The alternate reading, John 20:19-23, places that gift on Easter evening itself, as the risen Jesus breathes the Spirit onto the fearful disciples and sends them out with authority to forgive sins.
