Overview & Insights

"A wandering Aramean was my ancestor... and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand." (Deuteronomy 26:5, 8)

Moses instructs Israel that once settled in the land, each worshiper is to bring the first fruits of the harvest and recite a short creed recounting their ancestors' homelessness and God's rescue from slavery. The offering ties gratitude for present abundance directly to memory of past vulnerability.
