Overview & Insights

"Therefore I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love." (Luke 7:47)

At a Pharisee's dinner, a sinful woman weeps at Jesus' feet, wipes them with her hair, and anoints them with costly ointment, prompting Jesus to tell a parable about forgiven debt and to declare her sins forgiven. Luke then lists the women, including Mary Magdalene and Joanna, who traveled with Jesus and supported his ministry out of their own resources.
