“The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.” (Exodus 1:17)
A new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph enslaves the Israelites and orders the Hebrew boys killed, but the midwives fear God and spare them. Moses is born, hidden, set adrift on the Nile, and drawn from the water by Pharaoh's daughter.
