Overview & Insights

"Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58).

Accused of being demon-possessed, Jesus answers that whoever keeps his word will never see death, and that Abraham rejoiced to see his day. When pressed on how he could have seen Abraham, Jesus takes the divine name for himself, provoking the crowd to try to stone him.
