"Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive." (Luke 20:38)

The Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, pose a trick question to Jesus about a widow married successively to seven brothers. Jesus answers that resurrected life is not a continuation of earthly marriage, and that God's covenant with the patriarchs proves the dead are alive to God.
