"How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!" (Luke 13:34).
Warned that Herod wants to kill him, Jesus calls Herod a fox and declares that he must keep going toward Jerusalem, since it is not fitting for a prophet to die away from that city. He then laments over Jerusalem's resistance to God's messengers, longing to gather the city like a hen gathers her chicks.
