Overview & Insights

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30)

A scribe asks Jesus which commandment is first, and Jesus joins loving God with all one's being to loving the neighbor as oneself. He then puzzles the crowd by asking how the Messiah can be both David's son and the Lord whom David calls Lord.
