"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleading, so that, when they look on him whom they have pierced, they will mourn for him." (Zechariah 12:10)
Zechariah promises a future outpouring of God's Spirit that turns Jerusalem's mourning over a pierced figure into cleansing and grace. John's Gospel later applies this verse directly to the crucifixion of Jesus.
