"For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6)

The prophet calls Israel to press on to know the Lord, whose coming is as sure as the dawn. God laments that their love is fleeting like a morning cloud and declares that he desires steadfast love and knowledge of God more than sacrifice.
