Jesus was no salesman.
In our consumer culture, it is customary for salespeople to emphasize the benefits of a product, while minimizing the price. Indeed, we’re all familiar with the phenomenon of “the fine print.” And the information contained in the fine print is usually the sort of thing that a salesperson doesn’t want to talk about — restrictions, limitations, exclusions, additional taxes and fees, and such.
If Consumer Reports says that this is the top ranked product of its kind, that information isn’t relegated to the fine print. If the product has all sorts of hidden costs, that’s not the sort of information that gets printed on the billboard. It is customary, you see, for salespeople to emphasize the benefits of a product, while minimizing the price.
Jesus was no salesman.
